The Church on Maiden Lane

The pursuit of a unified purpose.

This could best describe the vision of the small North Georgia Baptist church on Maiden Lane. Forty members, a bold batallion of aged believers, a music man with a heart of gold and wobbly knees, and a quarky pastor equipped with reckless abandon make up this passion-filled church.

The eyes of this world expect our salvation and revival to come from the east wrapped in all of the big technology, big worship, and big congregations. They expect our deliverance and rescue to come from the high energy, relevent, modern fellowships that have changed church as we know it and brought innovation on every front.

While I have never had any quarrel with any gospel preaching church, big or small, I do not believe that such a revival and rescue are coming. I believe we will be shocked to find that our revival that our victory will be found bursting forth from churches like that which sits on Maiden Lane.

Our churches have attached themselves to an inward focus. We have changed the very mission and message of the Christian Church, we have altered the meaning of the great commision and have pushed Christ out of the center of our churches and replaced him with hip pastors, rock stars, and theological debates that consume all of our time and none of our true purpose: The Gospel.

Many things could be said about the church on Maiden Lane. They are stuck in their ways... They sing hymns still and out of the hymn book no less... They only have a piano and an organ... they are old...

I may have been casting the same stones at this church had i not been blessed by God with the opportunity to serve in this wonderful place. Now i see that the way they are stuck in is that of the Gospel message, their hymns are words of scripture that have stood the test of time, their piano and organ create a joyful sound that requires nor is in need of any accompaniment and their age is simply a testimony of an all powerful God that has affected so much change in these sweet people's lives that they have devoted the very essence of who they are to the pursuit of the unified purpose of Matthew twenty-eight. "To go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost."

I believe revival is coming to the church on Maiden Lane. I believe it is coming quickly. Our hearts are ready, our mission is clear.

Gloria In Exelsis Deo
